10 Minute Five Ingredient Easy Gravy

Gravy tops off so many yummy comfort food, from mashed potatoes to Swedish meatballs to biscuits. A lot of recipes require meat drippings, but where will you get the drippings on a normal weeknight? This simple recipe will get you the gravy in less time than you can believe, without the drippings.

TIPS

  • I oftentimes don’t have broth/stock when I need it but this recipe tastes just as delicious with water and a little salt and soy sauce.
  • The gravy will thicken as it rests. Remember to stir before serving!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ C onion diced
  • 1 C any flavor broth or stock can be substituted with water and ½ tsp salt or with meat drippings
  • ½ tbsp soy sauce
  • salt & pepper optional

Instructions

  • In a small sauce pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the onions and cook until soft (about 5 minutes). To get a darker colored gravy, cook the onion until it's caramelized.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  • Slowly stir in broth/stock and soy sauce until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency, about 3 minutes. Add salt & pepper to taste.
  • Serve & enjoy! (Note, the gravy will thicken as it rests. Stir before serving.)
