25 Minute Moist Air Fryer Swedish Meatballs

You don’t need to go to IKEA just to eat swedish meatballs anymore! This Air Fryer Swedish Meatballs produces the softest, moistest meatballs ever. I plan on changing all my meatball recipes to follow this as a base!

TIPS

  • The breadcrumbs help moisten the meatballs by absorbing the liquids.
  • These meatballs taste scrumptious with my go-to gravy recipe for turkey and chicken pot pies.

Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 1 lb ground meat
  • ¼ C breadcrumbs
  • ¼ C milk
  • ½ C onion diced
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic salt
Gravy
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • ½ C onions diced
  • C broth or water + ½ tsp salt
  • C milk or water
  • ½ tbsp soy sauce

Method

  1. Prepare your air fryer basket by lightly greasing the basket with cooking oil (or cooking spray).
  2. Mix together all the Meatball ingredients. Roll the ground meat into meatballs of about 1 inch to 1½ inch diameter. This should make 12-16 meatballs.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for a minute or so. Then air fry the meatballs for about 8 minutes. I usually flip/turn the meatballs and then air fry for about another 5 minutes for a more even browning. If using a meat thermometer, the temperature should reach at least 160°F.
  4. While the meatballs are in the air fryer, make the gravy! In a small sauce pan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  5. Add the onions and cook until soft (about 5 minutes). To get a darker colored gravy, cook the onion until it's caramelized.
  6. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Slowly stir in broth and soy sauce until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency, about 3 minutes. Add salt & pepper to taste.
  8. Pour the gravy over the meatballs before serving. Serve & enjoy!
