Gravy tops off so many yummy comfort food, from mashed potatoes to Swedish meatballs to biscuits. A lot of recipes require meat drippings, but where will you get the drippings on a normal weeknight? This simple recipe will get you the gravy in less time than you can believe, without the drippings.
TIPS
- I oftentimes don’t have broth/stock when I need it but this recipe tastes just as delicious with water and a little salt and soy sauce.
- The gravy will thicken as it rests. Remember to stir before serving!

10 Minute Five Ingredient Gravy, Meat Drippings Optional
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- ½ C onion diced
- 1 C any flavor broth or stock can be substituted with water and ½ tsp salt or with meat drippings
- ½ tbsp soy sauce
- salt & pepper optional
Instructions
- In a small sauce pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the onions and cook until soft (about 5 minutes). To get a darker colored gravy, cook the onion until it's caramelized.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly stir in broth/stock and soy sauce until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency, about 3 minutes. Add salt & pepper to taste.
- Serve & enjoy! (Note, the gravy will thicken as it rests. Stir before serving.)
