My family loves these cheesy biscuits. Then again, they love anything with white flour. And white flour + cheese = homerun!
This recipe is so easy, even young kids can make it. It has no rising time, does not require use of food processors to cut butter into small pieces, nor does it require folding the dough over and over to create layers. Just mix, scoop, and pop in the oven. From prep to tummy, it just takes 20 minutes!
Although these biscuits are super tasty, I don’t make them as much as I would like. I’m on a mission to inject whole wheat flour into 100% white flour recipes that we like so that we can take advantage of the fiber and protein in whole wheat flour. My husband begs me not to tarnish these cheesy biscuits and leave them be, but I am making no such promises. In the meantime, I will continue making these 20 Minute Easy Cheesy Biscuits for those days that we deserve an extra treat or two!
Kitchen Science
Quick breads, like these cheesy biscuits or pancakes, don’t use yeast. So it requires another agent to cause the biscuits to rise. You may have noticed the use of vinegar in this recipe. Vinegar, an acid, causes a reaction and produces gas (carbon dioxide) when combined with the baking soda. This gas causes the biscuit to rise to fluffy perfection. Vinegar and milk also create a reaction resulting in “plastic milk.” These are experiments that can be done with kids! (more to come)
